MARCOROSSI artecontemporanea inaugurates the exhibition season at its Pietrasanta gallery with Urbs ex arboribus, a project by Luca Pancrazzi that continues and expands upon the research previously presented in the Milan, Turin, and Verona galleries.
The exhibition brings together a core of recent works—ranging from large-scale “whites” on raw canvas to works on paper of various sizes—through which the artist investigates the relationship between nature and construction, between organic growth and urban space.
The title, derived from Latin, literally means “a city from trees,” but above all suggests a shift in perspective: no longer man observing nature, but plants observing and silently judging the city. In this vision, nature does not disappear; it remains in waiting, ready to reclaim the space.
The landscape thus becomes a threshold: a place of unstable balance between order and disorder, between design and spontaneous growth. The works on paper, more free and immediate, allow the rhythm of the gesture and an openness to the unexpected to emerge; meanwhile, the monochrome canvases develop from minimal rules, evoking natural processes of expansion and transformation.
As the artist writes: “I like to think that we are observed and tolerated by the plants that surround us and that they are the only hope, not only symbolic, of finding a more natural way to exist.”
Luca Pancrazzi’s research moves between painting, sculpture, photography, and installation, in a continuous dialogue between techniques and languages. Formed in Florence, he worked in New York with Sol LeWitt and in Rome with Alighiero Boetti, participating in major institutional contexts including the Venice Biennale, the Whitney Museum, and the PAC in Milan.
With Urbs ex arboribus, the Pietrasanta gallery opens its exhibition season with a project that invites us to rethink the relationship between man and the environment, restoring to nature a silent yet decisive presence.
