MARCOROSSI artecontemporanea is pleased to present Silenzi d’oro [Golden Silences], a solo exhibition by Mirco Marchelli, also at its Pietrasanta gallery.
An artist of multifaceted talents, since the mid-1990s Marchelli has developed a research practice linked to memory and the fascination with matter. In his works, the artist breathes new life and meaning into everyday objects, merging them with painting. Diverse materials such as plaster, white cement, scagliola, and wax become the blank canvas upon which the artist creates new forms, obtained by cutting out unusual materials like rubber, fabric, bricks, and shards. Chosen for their chromatic harmonies, these elements are transformed into the colored tesserae of a deeply personal mosaic.
The title of the exhibition evokes a suspended dimension, where silence is not an absence but a generative space – a place for listening and resonance. In the works of this new project, Marchelli’s artistic gesture proceeds even further by “subtraction,” according to a logic of “removal” that recalls music and breathing rather than pure formal construction. The matter he employs becomes the custodian of stratified memories, reactivated through processes that welcome the unexpected and the variation.
A distinctive element of Marchelli’s work is also the role of titles – often poetic and ironic, constructed as rhetorical devices such as oxymorons, linguistic shifts, and antitheses – which establish a dialogue with the artwork that is at times harmonious, at others unsettling. The silence at the heart of the project becomes “golden,” precious, charged with poetic tension, and capable of suggesting rather than declaring. The works are thus configured as mute compositions, in which the balance between matter and sign opens up to an intimate and meditative perception.
